Ok here's the deal. The Maple Leafs always seem to face Backup goalies, it's getting ridiculous. 17 out of 35 games including tonights' game the leafs have faced a back-up goalie. You could say that it's 20 games but I left Carey Price's Starts out. so the breakdown is this:
14 wins in total
6 wins out of 17 games VS back-ups
17 games VS Backups
18 games VS Starters
check any other team in the NHL and I'm pretty sure they don't have a %50 Back-up rating, it's just sad. What's worse is that they only won 6 of those games. It's partially hypocritical ranting about them not facing starters when 8 of their 14 total wins are against starters but I feel as if they're getting an easy road as opposed to everybody else. Your in the NHL not the AHL.
You say this like it's a BAD thing?
Teams ussually play their backups against weaker opposition - draw you conclusions.
Ok what's next, do we have to go into a study on how many Ontario born players play their asses off on Saturday nights when they are on HNIC and the Leafs have to suffer as a result? What a stupid post! Or perhaps, let's see, the Leafs play all their games with a back up goalie in their net and have actually managed to win 14 games - including the 2 against the Habs! Or maybe the Leafs play against only teams that have 5 starters out of the lineup but the Habs only play the same teams with a full healthy lineup.Have some more eggnogg and sleep it off!
Well, with the Lightning Ramo may well become the #1 goalie considering how the other two have played!
What an inane post... I mean, it's a fun thing to comment about... but if you honestly "feel as if they're getting an easy road as opposed to everybody else" (And I mean HONESTLY) you should complain to Bettman and tell him that a minimum ratio of starters to back-ups needs to be enforced. You could probably find a weird stat like this about every team. And if the Leafs had won all the games against backups ridiculous posts like this would at least have some credible impetus. They haven't though.... so it is probably the biggest non-issue of the season thus far. Thank you for beating this dead horse a little bit more... In fact, this horse has been beaten so mercilessly it's starting to resemble a glue stick. Find somethign real to complain about.
some of these backups are part of tandems, are prospects, or have since taken the starter job... do you count Auld and Bryzgalov as backups? Rask? Gerber? Emery?
I agree its weird that Toronto does seem to face alot of backups. Simmer down Toronto fans! Its just a comment about a wierd occurrence. Of course every team has strange statistics that follow them but Toronto is a big name so they get analyzed more. Other teams have gone thru this back-up goalie-itis. Just look at how many back-ups Philly faced last year! Maybe Toronto just resembles the Philly team from last year;)
