Jordin Tootoo just hit the nail right on the head, you do have to be a man to play this game. But I'm puzzled by the fact that he laid out Aaron Miller and doesn't be a "man" and stand up for his actions.
On Sunday, Matt Pettinger laid out Jonathan Toews of the Chicago Blackhawks and he gets into a scrap with Cam Barker.
Tootoo lays out Aaron Miller, Luc Bourdon probably issued a challenge to him, and he gets a crosscheck to the face, Bourdon falls, and Tootoo pummels him with a few punches before officials jumped in.
A "man" would of dropped his gloves and gone with Luc Bourdon, not crosschecking him in the face and punching a defenseless guy on his butt on the ice.
Bourdon's neck and chin area was red after the game.
You could say we were lucky that Bourdon wasn't knocked out by a punch from Tootoo like Stephane Robidas was after Tootoo belted Mike Modano.
Did any Flyer players get suspended for this? :P
I've got no respect for Jordin Tootoo. Mark my words...5 or 6 seasons from now, we'll be comparing things that he's done to those of Chris Simon. Tootoo's a menace who has no respect for anyone out on the ice.
"you've gotta be a man..."!!!!! That's exactly why Tootoo shouldn't even be in the NHL. Second worst coward in the league (next to Downey). Leads with his stick every time...a would be bully who's nothing but a classless coward.
Just because your color guy said he leads with his stick every time doesn't mean its true. Tootoo is a rough and tumble player, and when he rams someone everyone knows it. Yet 95% of his hits are clean and DRAWS penalties, just what you want. Its the people who come after him that usually pay a nasty price. Yeah Tootoo's crosscheck was uncalled for and merits a game suspension, but even with the Robidas hit he didn't lead with his stick. The video even shows he swapped the stick to his other hand to pound Robidas (who would have crosschecked him from behind if Tootoo didn't catch him.) Tootoo drops the gloves frequently and usually that's uglier than when he nails someone. You don't want Toots to drop the gloves. He will never ever ever be compared to Chris Simon. To put Tootoo on the level of someone who uses his skate as a weapon is uncalled for and simply blind. Just how many Pred games do any of you watch, anyways? Whoever has Tootooo on their team will be a fan of him, whoever plays against him will hate him. Doesn't matter who he was with. We see him all the time and what he does for a team, he's a huge asset and rarely ever a detriment with his rough play. You all would love him if he were with your squad.
arwilson529 makes a great point. If Tootoo was on ice with your team, you'd love having him. And if he didn't play for the Preds, I probably would feel the same way all of you feel. And comparing him to Chris Simon is just crazy. As for the Robidas incident, Barry Trotz said it best when he pointed out that he wasn't skating over to give Tootoo a kiss. Better still, Modano comes back and attacks Tootoo with his stick, something that usually gives players multi-game suspensions. It's a rather big no-no to use your stick as a weapon. No matter what you thought of Tootoo's hit to Modano or his knockout to Robidas, Modano should have been penalized for that as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ5l40daTdM23 seconds and 37 seconds in. Maybe a case of some unfair officiating there? I haven't liked Modano since.
the reason tootoo is hated is simply this he is short ,stocky and muscle bound.when people hit him they just bounce off, when he hits people in the words of mike tyson they go down and they go down hard.totoo"s hits are always going to be controversial because he hits with such impact.im not saying he is an angel because i realize a few of his hits are borderline at best.he however should not have to have every single hit he delivers be under leauge review .sometimes when he hits people they dont get up legal or not.
Tootoo is a throwback NHL tough-guy intimidating opponets and outraging opposing fans. Even NHL fans have become soft and offended like the rest of pussified America.
