Is it time to start admitting that the Ducks just don't have the firepower to repeat? I don't mean to jump on their backs in the midst of a 1-2-1 slide, but it's looking more and more likely that 5th in the West is the best they're going to be able to achieve. This will more than likely get them a first round date with Dallas, who, to put it mildly, has pretty much owned the Ducks this year, going 5-1-0 against the defending champs.
While they've stuggled to score for most of the year, if Bertuzzi, Marchant, and PRONGER are the best shot they've got in a shootout, then I think we're in big trouble. Does anyone know the reasoning behind those choices, with Getzlaf, Selanne and Kunitz sitting on the bench?
While I'm holding out hope for a late year offensive turnaround, I'm afraid that even our stellar D and outstanding goaltending just aren't going to be enough to get us back to the promised land.
