If there is one change that the NHL must it is the point allotment for wins and losses. Otherwise known as the "three-point
game." It is the most idiotic practice to award 2 points in some games and 3 in others. It makes it impossible to catch
teams in the playoff races when some games are offering up more points than others. This also contributes to a more boring
style of play. I was watching a game between Philadelphia and Boston last week. It was clear that the two teams were
playing for overtime. With each team holding down a playoff position at the time, neither wanted to lose the one point
awarded before overtime. It is really unfortunate for teams such as Buffalo, Toronto, Florida or Washington who are trying
to close the gap and capture a playoff berth.
Points should be awarded as follows:
3 points for regulation victory
2 points for overtime/shootout victory
1 point for overtime/shootout loss
This change must be made this off season.
Or we could just stop rewarding teams for losing...
Your formatting is terribly hard to read. Did you write this in Word or something before posting, because that's a bad idea. Anyway, in response to the post, I agree with the first comment. I calculated the other day what the West standings would look like without points given to overtime losses, it was interesting. Colorado would have been tied with Minnesota for the division and Calgary and Vancouver would have been 7th and 8th.
I absolutely hate the 3 point games. Get rid of 3 points all together and go back to if you win you get 2 points and if you lose you get squat. This isn't day camp where everyone gets a cookie.
I agree, baseball teams don't get half a win for going to extra innings, and they don't give points for going to OT in the NBA either. It makes no sense to me...
