TSN.ca is reporting that Ryan Malone has agreed to terms on a contract for $31.5 million over 7 years, including between $7 and 8 million for each of the first two years. I would say nice move by the Lightning, but they are definately overpaying for the first two years. I understand that he would probably be valuable to any team in the NHL, but $8 million is too much. The report went on to say that Malone's father had been hired as Tampa's director of pro scouting, so another possible reason for the huge signing. Tampa might go from last place to a southeast power with Malone, Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Stamkos among others. They should just shop for a proven #1 goalie and they could look more like the 2004 team. All they need is to sign Roberts and it would be practically the same!
Ryan Malone makes $300,000 per goal, give or take. Uh, nice job Tampa. Seriously.
