Since I have not seen it mentioned anywhere here on HockeyBuzz, the Penguins, City of Pittsburgh, SEA and all other relevant parties, including a few hundred Penguin Fans chanting "Let's Go Pens", held the official ground-breaking yesterday for the new arena that will probably be one of the finest arena's in all of professional hockey when it opens in the fall of 2010.

In a ceremony that included the National Anthem being sung by one of the best, and Pittsburgh favorite, Jeff Jimerson, Mario and other Team and local government officials broke ground with shovels that were outfitted with the shafts from Sidney Crosby's sticks, at the point where center ice of the yet-to-be named arena will be. (My bet is that it will continue to be Mellon Arena since they will have the rights, or else it will be UPMC Arena, Westinghouse Arena, or Consol Energy Place) Ironically the new arena will seat 18,087 people for hockey games. A nice touch!

It's only the beginning, but it will be great to see concrete poured and steel rising from the ground in the next few months! Finally, it has officially begun!

As with any new building. I hope the fans will come out and keep the team in the Black.
