Well... not really. We needed a win last night more than anything after the loss against Calgary Saturday night. And my boys pulled it off. The highlight of the night was definitely our 5 on 3 penalty kill in the 3rd. But I digress... let's start at the beginning.
<br />
After a score-less 1st period, Olli Jokinen got the party started with a goal off of a back-hand feed from Shane Doan at 7:53 in the 2nd, just as a Phoenix power play expired. Pittsburgh answered right back 37 seconds later when Marislav Satan managed to sneak the one and only Penguins goal past Ilya Bryzgalov. Doan pulled us ahead at the end of the 2nd by sealing the deal on a pass from Steven Reinprecht. Reino finished his first game back after being a healthy scratch for the past 2 games, as Phoenix's 3rd star of the game. Reino also helped rookie Kevin Porter notch his first NHL goal at 14:49 of the 3rd with some gorgeous stickhandling through heavy traffic for a tap in by Porter. Outstanding.

As I mentioned before, the highlight of the night for me was our 5 on 3 penalty kill in the 3rd. My boy Carcillo took a boarding penalty at 8:37 (which was BS by the way & the ref should know it too, for all the yelling I did)
Then at 8:43 Kurt Sauer took a delay of game-puck over glass penalty. It was definitely edge-of-your-seat excitement to watch the boys kill that one. My boys ended up killing 4 of the 5 Pittsburgh penalties overall. To end the night, Doan added an empty net goal for a final score of 4-1.

On a side note, there was a great representation of Penguins fans at Jobing.com Arena last night, which made for lots of heckling and trash talking. That's always fun. They tried to get a cheer going in the 1st but we were quick to drown them out with a round of LET'S GO COYOTES!!!

Some thoughts...
<br />
***Bryzgalov plays much better when he does not have to play every single game. We have a great back-up goalie in Tellqvist and I think if he were in the net maybe every two games or so, it would allow Bryz the rest he needs to play with that edge that was so apparent last night.
***Keith Yandle has so far been our only D-man to notch a goal this season. He was also a healthy scratch last night along with Brian McGrattan.
***Defenseman Jonas Ahnelov who has been on IR since the end of preseason has been skating down in San Antonio. He broke a couple of fingers during the preseason and I can't wait for him to get back on the ice. Ahnelov is going to be fantastic; he's definitely one to keep your eye on.
