Well Devils fans now what? Since Marty has gone done we are beginning to see how valuable he is with our sub-par defense. Don't get me wrong I think Kevin has played well over the past 4 starts but to be honest with you I feel he is truly a back up type of goaltender. Yes he went to the finals with the Canes a few years back, but that was in the old NHL (clutching, grabbing, mugging). The game has gotten faster and I feel he is not a true starter.
With that being said where do we go defensibly? I think it is time to really take a look at guys and say he goes, and he stays. I have my opinion on each one but this blog would pages long, so I will keep it short:
Stays: Martin, Salvador, Oduya, Mottau, & Greene
Should Go: White (has been a different player since eye injury last year, almost plays scared), Brookbank (to slow).
On the forward side of things we have the talent but where is it?
My feelings going forward if I am Lou is package a group of players and make a deal.
As a Devils season ticket holder it is getting frustrating to watch a team play like this.
I will trade you Tim Connolly and Max Afinogenov for Travis Zajac and Jamie Langenbrunner.
What I wouldn't give for a Kovalchuck trade!!!!
sabes i would five u zajac BUT it probably would upset zach (parise), he ans him are good friends
Brookbank has played bad this year, the devils should keep Salmela up, this second stint he has gained a lot of confidence, and looks really good. He is one of the few players shooting on the powerplay. Brookbank might want to go to the minors. The defense is not bad, its just that they have not been exposed like this. With marty in net, they did not have to worry, now their coverage is doing terribly because teams don't have to beat marty, they have to beat a backup. their defense should look like thisMartin-SalvadorOduya-GreeneWhite/Mattua/Salemela(who ever is playing better, better effort in practice etc.)
airtsabes, I would do that trade in a second, a new york second!!
