Since we have not heard anything from Matt, I decided to chime in and get the discussion started.
Last night's win was, I think, defining for this Canes team. After starting a bit slow and giving up a late 1st period goal on an odd man rush, the Hurricanes played an absolutely solid game in. They bided their time and outskated the Devils until the tide turned. Once the game was tied, with some 6 minutes left, I had no doubt that we would hold on for at least a point...Cam and the defense were that solid. Once the PP began after the hook to Jokinen, it seemed inevitable that we would go up and win the game in regulation.
Final note on the playoff picture. I am like many of you and do not want to count chickens. However, we are in fact the hottest team in the NHL with 6 wins in a row and standing on last year's season point total with 4 at home and one on the road remaining. Considering that the lst 3 years have had #8 in the East with 92 points, I would say our chances look very good.
Hey Caniac...Thanks for picking up the ball for me. I agree that this was a very good win. New Jersey is a solid hockey team especially at home, and despite playing the night before brought a pretty good game on Saturday. While the Canes did not play lights out, they just continued to be good and Ward even better which kept them in the game long enough for their confidence and "find a way" attitude to take over.
Not sure if what I originally posted will show up or not, but just wanted to say good luck to the Canes the rest of the way. Since 2006's run (and the real cool fans in Raleigh for game 7), I've adopted the Canes as my Eastern Conference mistress. They've looked awful good lately.Good luck over the next two weeks and hopefully for some playoff hockey well into May...and beyond :)
