First i want to dedicate this post to all the bashers, i just want to put these few numbers out there because I've been seeing alot of bashing of the habs and if people actuall looked into the upgrades montreal has made they would be suprised. This is a comparrison of the top three forwards and D that were let go and picked up. Gainey removed Kovy, Koivu and Tanguay and aquired Cami, Gomez and Gionta. He also removed Komi, Bouillon and Schneider and aquired Mara, Spacek and Gill. In comparing the numbers from last season and personal info here are the results. Montreal is +68 in the points department, not a bad upgrade. They have 69 less penalty minutes, thats always a plus. They are 16 years younger, always good to stay young. And the big shocker of all montreal has gained 2 inches of height, oh yeas you read it right we are now 2 inches bigger. So to all the bashers out there this should shed a differnt light on the outlook of the canadiens for the up coming season. Of course other upgades we made and the others we lost could easily be replaced with a bag of pucks. Just wanted to shed some light on this subject as it has taking such a beat down in previous post.

Finally some good old math! we are going 100% this season and we are going to be strong
I am looking forward to the season after that disastrous end last year . Regardless if we significantly improve or not , the make up of the team had to change , and i am phsyched to see it in action .
i think thats our biggest strenght we never give up because we know we have the quality and they got us
Great blog and I 100% AGREE!
Ok not to be another "basher" of Montreals roster changes, but have any of those bashers actually commented that your defence had gotten smaller in any way? Im pretty sure those comments have probably been directed towards your changes in forwards..which from the 3 players you listed there have gotten about 10 inches smaller. I mean great u replaced Bouillon with Gill, that will kind of throw off any set of stats based on height
On Avg. yes they got bigger. But that will happen when u add Hal Gill. How much slower on Avg. has the D gotten because of him? Also spendin as much as they did on UFA's doesn't always pan out. All the money in the world doesn't always buy you a great team.
I agree 100%, the team is more talented and have the potential to make the playoffs and hopefully "more", but the question is can all of our new players mesh with each other and the the remainder of last years team. Yes we do have the gomez and gionta chemistry from N.J. but how will the rest of the team take to them?
On paper, the team is more talented, but the chemistry may not be there after a massive free agency overhaul. It's always risky business.Besides, nobody argued that your entire team got smaller. Just your top line(s). Hal Gill throws off any stats with his size, but he never uses it so he may as well be 5'11".
Come December, Hal Gill will be the new whipping boy in Montreal. He was a fine player pre-lockout, but he's just not effective any more. It felt like Gainey acquired Gill just to shut up the "shorty" talk out there. The Habs are going to get physically beat down by the Leafs and Bruins this season.
