A couple of weeks ago I wrote a blog talking about how Oklahoma City has had a good tradition of hockey in our city. Well guess what, yesterday the Edmonton Oilers and the American Hockey League along with a local ownership group by the name of Prodigal Hockey announced that we will be he AHL affiliate team of the Edmonton Oilers starting in October 2010.
The team will play their games in the Cox Convention Center which used to be called the Myriad for the people who haven't been to Oklahoma City in awhile. The team will play a 40 game season at home we have been told. The team name will be decided by a name the team contest. You can submit your team name choices at
http://www.prodigalhockey.com.
Oklahoma City is back in the hockey world. This team if like the last team stays open to the fans and is good at interacting with the people of Oklahoma city will be taken in with open arms and loved. If the team is not all I can say is I hope the people still come to the best hockey we have seen in Oklahoma City.
I know that I will be at every game i possibly can and am currently waiting on a call back about season tickets after speaking with someone today. People say we have a professional basketball team now what about them. My answer to that is Hockey has off days and if the Thunder play when the new team has an off day I will try to go. Thank you to the Edmonton Oilers, Prodigal Hockey, The American Hockey league, and the City of Oklahoma City for giving us what many people have wanted good professional hockey.
