Hello Hockey Buzzers!
Being as as this is my first blog and all, i thought that i would write about something that i am infinitely familiar with: Sports disappointment. After another summer of (mostly) lackluster moves, the Sabres (and dont even mention the Bills) are seemingly not much better than they were last year. I suppose i should prefice this with the following
1) i know summer isn't over yet...
2) They made the playoffs.
3) And yes, they won thier division last year...
That being said, I have lived thru No Goal, Wide right, homerun throwback, etc etc, and just making the playoffs is no longer my goal. My goal is to win it all, and bring that Stanley Cup to Buffalo. So with that, this summers activities:
Jordan Leopold: Eh. Solid 2nd paring d-man, in my opinion, i know in years past he has scored some goals, but i don't see how this is an upgrade over Toni L, although i'm not going to totally bash it becuase hell, at least its different.
Rob Niedermeyer: A solid signing, will it bring us the cup? Probably not, and would i have prefered Bill Guerin? Absolutely, but he brings the one thing this organization desperately needs, cup
winning experience. Now, i would have prefered this cup winning experience to maybe score 20 goals, or block 5 shots a game, but at this point i'll take it any way i can get it.
Patty Kaleta for 2 years: And why not more? Look, i am well aware that i am a complete homer on this one (i was born and spent the first 20 years of life in angola, ny), but at the same time, this is a guy who goes out and wrecks people, aggitates, can pop in maybe 15 goals a year. Do i want a whole team of Patty k's? No, but do i want this one for the next 6-8 years? Absolutely.
All of this being said, i do have a very small amount of optimism for this year, but that's because i'm from Buffalo, and we are all sports masacists here....
