The Forsberg Factor

Posted 2:35 PM ET | Comments 0
Will he come back? He's damaged goods and won't play in the NHL this season. Forsberg signs with Avs.

This was the Forsberg discussion from all season in a nutshell. On the eve of Trade Deadline Day, the Avs found themselves on the outside of the playoff picture looking in. Then, in an already injury ravaged season, the Avs bring in one of the most injury prone players in the league.

He stated from the get-go that the fans should not expect too much from him. This is a hard thing for Avs fans to do since we have all experienced his magic for 9 seasons in Denver.

One question remains, when will he suit up in the Burgandy and Blue? Well, the wait was worth it. Since his acquisition on February 25th, he has played in 10 games. The Avs are 9-1 with Peter in the lineup. There is no doubt that Forsberg makes the Avs a much better team especially RW Milan Hejduk. These two have recreated that magic that saw Forsberg win the Hart and Ross trophies while Hejduk won the Richard in 03.

Not only is the team winning with him in the lineup but he has helped in bring their power play out of the NHL basement (although it's still horrendous). His vision is a huge contributor to the power play and the offense in general. In his 10 games he has scored 14 points. Of those 14, 13 are assists while the 1 goal came on an effortless shot against Roberto Luongo on a breakaway.

If the Avs are going to make a run in the playoffs, a healthy Peter Forsberg will have to remain in the lineup.
