"some island"
I root for draft picks but not the team, apparently, NY • United States • 2022 Years Old • Male
****3/9 Edit. Ah, the lovely readers of hockeybuzz. The lack of reading comprehension on this site never ceases to amaze me. At no point did I say that either say that either team should make this trade. I merely thought it was an interesting concept as in some ways each team has what the other needs. I don't even know that either team would want to make the trade but that wasn't the point.

That said... the return for the Isles would be enormous. Girgensons is already really impressing in Buffalo as a 20 year old (second coming of Drury). Two of the picks will probably be Reinhart, Ekblad or the other guy whose name escapes me. The second rounder is at the top of the round. In that sense they would essentially be getting 5 firsts back. For the record, most of the Buffalo fans said that the Sabres shouldn't make the trade. I think that I agree with them.

************************

I'd like to first state that I feel for Islanders fan. I recently saw the 30 for 30 special that detailed their sale to Spanos. Shouldn't the combination of Spanos and Milbury result in the interruption of the space time continuum as we know it? Isn't that like crossing the streams? Anyway, I had no idea that their fans were that passionate before watching the documentary. I feel really awkward telling you that I feel for you because my team has the second worst owner in hockey.

Everyone says that the Sabres and Edmonton are natural trade partners because of their matching strengths/needs. I think the Islanders are actually a better fit because of the events of the last four months.

I propose the following swap:The Sabres 2014 draft (assuming 3 first rounders, including 2 top-5 picks and multiple picks in other rounds) and Zemgus Girgensons for John Tavares.

Why Girgensons? Because he is considered the most untouchable person in our organization. He is undoubtedly our future captain.

Why Buffalo makes the trade:

We have to get a #1 stud franchise center. It is an absolute must. The worst possible scenario of not making this trade is that we get a bunch of guys in this draft that our second liners. We have oodles of second liners. Also, the cupboard is full. We were recently ranked as having the second best organizational prospects and that was before the trade deadline additions. We also have a slew of picks in the golden 2015 draft.

Why Buffalo doesn't make the trade:

The inclusion of Girgensons could be the tipping point. Also, Murray might think that his eye for talent is so good that he can turn all those picks into gold. It is a lot to give up, surely.

Why the Islanders make the trade:

The Vanek trade was a disaster. They sacrificed a very high first round pick (Snow recently implied that it would be a 2014 first) in the trade, and lost their top-line winger in the initial trade. It is my understanding that they have decent players on the way - this would be a way to turbo-charge their organization. You would get a future franchise-type player in Girgensons. I really believe he is the second coming of Drury.

Why the Islanders don't make the trade:

Because it is freaking John Tavares. These kinds of guys aren't laying around. I would say that they can't afford any more PR nightmares but at this point would anyone really notice?

The Islanders will not make this trade. JT is a franchise player and Girgensons is not what they are looking for. If they keep this years pick, I can see them looking at Sam Bennett to add some goal scoring with JT. Unless he asks, you do not trade John Tavares

Jesus FUCKING Christ.

The pieces from those picks would help us more than one franchise player.

That is a terrible trade for buffalo! Trading away 2 first line guys and 2 good prospects AND girgensons for JT...JT is one of the best in the NHL, but were getting McDavid or Eichel next year anyways we dont need to trade our entire rebuild for him....

Girgensons is not the future captain. Amazing skills but not a captain.

i actually agree with slump buster.seems more like an nhl14 videogame trade but honestly i think NYI would get the best deal here. NYI are not a team to win now-to me they are 3 years away from having there top prospects develop and to get a good goalie. getting so many prospects would line them up for an extremely bright future. also they get LOTS of cap room.while i actually dont think buffalo would benefit from JT. i am not saying he isnt a SUPERSTAR. cuz he is, but does he make buffalo a playoff team? i dont think he does by himself without getting more help in the offseason.if buffalo offered snow this trade he would be an idiot to say no.oh wait..it is snow...

In what universe is Drury considered a franchise-type player? Solid player? Check. Clutch playoff performer? Double-check. Franchise player? Only if he ever agrees to my offer to join my beer league team.

So a line with a rookie with one yr of nhl experience and two players who have never played an nhl game is better than one of the elite centers of the game? Looooool
