Oil Stock Falling

Posted 1:04 PM ET | Comments 0
Both in industry and on the ice the Oil stock is dropping fast. The Oilers did manage to get a lot of shots last night against Florida but not a lot of shots were quality (from what I saw). Sure Anderson swallowed up every thing and did not allow many rebounds but most NHL goalies will do the same when 80% of the shots are put into the logo.

More and more it is looking to be the same season we have been watching since MacTavish took the reigns; .500 hockey. So, what is going to happen this year? You guessed it, the Oilers will be a 500 hockey club until March and start to battle and attempt to squeeze into the playoffs. That did work in 2006 but remember we had Pronger and Smith and they ran that team not MacTavish.

I know many people have been bashing MacTavish this year and this blog is no different. I really have to question a few things he has been doing so far. Like why is Cole on the 3rd line and playing with limited ice time? He has shown, in his brief moments, that he can get the puck deep and create chances. Why do the Oilers have and entire line that could be playing for the Springfield Falcons? And why does "Hor-coff it up" keep getting quality ice time?

I am definitely not going to say that I could do any better but I know there is a coach out there somewhere that can. As a life time Oiler fan (the Oilers and I were born the same year) I want to see this team do much, much better. Have a look at the names on the team this year....we should be competing for first in the North West, not 8th place.

What kind of motivation is MacTavish putting forth when he slams a guy, in public, that shows up to camp in the best shape of his life? Obviously I am talking about Penner. That’s not motivation! They need a coach who gives a pat on the back for the good things that they guys are doing and helping them fix the bad. That’s the coaches job. That provides motivation to keep doing the quality things that they can do. Positive reinforcement can work wonders and for proof of that look to the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball. They are able to transform great hitters with questionable skills on the field into great hitters and great fielder by positive reinforcement.

Its time for change in Oil country on the coaching front but who do we look to take the reigns and help make this team great?
