“The heart of the team beats through the Blueshirts’ Blue Line Big Three — Ryan McDonagh, Dan , NY • United States • 19 Years Old • Male
The New York Rangers are finally trying to go in another direction. Management is set to meet at President Glen Sather's California home to discuss the necessary moves needed to get this team back into Stanley Cup contention. Anyway, the Rangers are very high on the winger who hails from Cherepovets in Russia. He is a speedy skater who is very agile and it shows in his quick turns in which he is still able to maintain his acceleration. He has also shown impressive strength on the puck when in the corners. His stickhandling makes you drool and he has the type of shot that if he shot the puck more, he could easily net 25-30 goals a year in the NHL.

Larry Brooks of the New York Post believes a deal could happen by the weekend between the two sides.

Buchnevich, 21 put up an impressive 16-21-37 slash line in 58 games in the second best league in the world, the KHL. He split time between Severstal (his hometown team) and SKA St. Petersburg. He saw his ice time take a hit once he arrived in St. Petersburg. Buchnevich was averaging 17:56 on Severstal, and he was counted on as one of their primary scorers. However, once he arrived in St. Petersburg, he saw his ice time plummet to 12:16 a game. He still put up pretty good numbers (4-4-8 in 18 games played).

It is sounding more and more, day by day that Buchnevich will in fact be heading to the big apple. Fans must temper the expectations. This is not a 21 year old college kid or kid out of junior hockey. This is a whole different ball game for the Russian winger. He does not speak English and as Brooks says, the Rangers want to get him signed and accustomed to North American life as soon as possible. Will the team acquire a fellow Russian to ease the transition? It is quite possible but not one to concern yourself with until he gets signed.
