Oilers Lack Leadership

Posted 1:34 PM ET | Comments 0
A season with so much promise, looks bleak now as we near the end of an afwul nine game road trip (thanks Brier). rnrnAs I watch my favorite team night after night, its becoming clear that this team lacks leadership and that may be why they are struggling. There is so much pressure on the kids to carry this team to the promise land and I think they can and will at some point in their career, but it is clear that they are not quite ready for that pressure yet.rnrnHere are a few of my examples of the veteran leadership now and in the past that have helped young teams succeed. Jagr in Philly last year did wonders to Giroux, and the Flyers are a different team this year without him. Mario Lemieux with Crosby, taking him under his wing did wonders to Crosby and probably still does. John Tavares lives with Doug Weight and Dougie has taken him under his wing. Bill Guerin with the Penguins in 2009 win they won the cup.rnrnThese are just a few examples of what I am talking about and what I feel Hall, Eberle, and RNH need to help them grow into franchise players and what it takes to win in the NHL. You look at a guy like Jason Arnott who was a free agent all year and the Oilers had the option of bringing him in, plus he's a centre, which we desperately needed when injuries came. Management did nothing to about it and I feel that was a big oversight by management.rnrnThats my two cents and I think Tamby needs to look for someone like that to bring in and help these kids along for next year if this team wants to have success. Obviously, our veterans are not doing the job of helping the kids. This has to be addressed.rnrnDouglas Dyck[img:left][url]
