For New Jersey Devils defenseman Marek Zidlicky, this offseason should be filled with a lot of time searching for a new home, because he should not be returning to the Devils next season.

The free agent veteran had said many times at he wants to return to the garden state next year, but there are plenty of reasons why Lou Lamoriello should just let Zidlicky go.

First of all, Marek Zidlicky is an asset, whose bad qualities far outway his good ones. Sure he can move the puck , but most of the time, the only thing that is good for from a defenseman is getting caught out of position, leading to quick or odd-man rushes from opponents. And while he was number five on the team in points and the leader amongst defenseman, it he did only finish with 4 goals and 15 assists.

Looking at statistics, Zidlicky was also tied for the worst +\- on the team with fellow defenseman Bryce Salvador at a -12. I don't know about you, but that is what you are trying to prevent-goals. And, it is pretty hard to get points when you spend a lot of your possible on ice time in the penalty box. Zidlicky was number 3 on the team for most penalty minutes behind only David Clarkson and Krystofer Barch.

There are many free agents that the Devils need can re-sign this off season- 14 UFA's to be exact. The Devils need as much cap space as possible to re-sign key core players like Patrik Elias, plus there are some RFA's like Adam Henrique that should be put into long term deals. With all these needs, plus the surplus of young defenseman like Adam Larsson, re-signing Marek Zidlicky just doesn't make sense for this New Jersey Devils team. It doesn't seem worth.
