Flyers Point Projections

Posted 1:09 AM ET | Comments 8
In my third blog, I thought for fun I would give my point projections for the players this upcoming season. These projections are for 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goalies over 82 games, injuries will happen but as they are for the most part hard to predict, I will not try(although some are easy to predict, see Tim Connolly).

Forward

Claude Giroux
last season - 48 gp 13g 35a 48p -7
projection - 82 gp 35g 55a 90p +20

Even at a point a game, last season was somewhat dissapointing, look for a bounce back to his previous season numbers.

Jake Voracek
last season - 48gp 22g 24a 46p -7
projections - 82gp 25g 48a 73p +20

Big season last year, flyers fans are expecting more and at 23 he is still young but I feel last year was him just about hitting his ceiling, still no question he is 1st line talent.

Wayne Simmonds
last season - 45gp 15g 17a 32p -7
projections - 82gp 30g 32a 62p +15

Simmonds was our best player at times last year, he brings a ton of energy and grit everytime he hits the ice and has enough skill to be a perennial 30 goal scorer.

Vincent Lecavalier
last season - 39gp 10g 22a 32p -5
projections - 82gp 25g 30a 55p +15

Vinny was brought in to replace Briere, and with no disrespect to Danny he is an upgrade. Big skilled and good at the draw Vinny still has lots of gas left in the tank and a cup ring on his finger.

Brayden Schenn
last season - 47gp 8g 18a 26p -8
projections - 82gp 25g 30a 55p +10

People are waiting for Brayden to bust out, and I feel this is the year. He has already shown flashes of why he was the #1 rated prospect in the NHL and now its time to produce.

Matt Read
last season - 42gp 11g 13a 24p +1
projections - 82gp 24g 24a 48p +10

Matt Read was also at time our best player last year, very versital he can play on any line, any position, he plays the PK and PP and with speed to burn and great hands can be counted on for at least 20 goals.

Scott Hartnell
last season - 32gp 8g 3a 11p -5
projections - 82gp 25g 15a 40p +20

Rough season last year, after coming off injury he never seemed to find his groove, however he is usually good for 25 goals 25 assists, look for a bounce back season.

Sean Couturier
last season - 46gp 4g 11a 15p -8
projections - 82gp 15g 25a 40p +15

Couts had a "down year" last year according to some, however his point per game totals were close to his rookie numbers while beeing matched up against other teams best players and starting 70% of his draws in the defensive zone.

Simon Gange
last season - 27gp 5g 6a 11p -3
projections - 82gp 15g 20a 35p +5

Its only a matter of time until he signs and even though he will never score 40 goals again he is still a great 2-way player with a great shot.

Max Talbot
last season - 35gp 5g 5a 10p +2
projections - 82gp 10g 8a 18p +2

Great team guy, good chemestry with Couturier and capable of scoring some clutch goals.

Zack Rinaldo
last season - 32gp 3g 2a 5p -7 85pims
projections - 82gp 5g 5a 10p +2 185pims

Feisty forward, reasonable skill.

Adam Hall
last season - 11gp 0g 0a 0p -1
projections - 82gp 2g 3a 5p +1

Good on the draw but don't look for any offence.

Defense

Kimmo Timmonen
last season - 45gp 5g 24a 29p +3
projections - 82gp 8g 41a 49p +15

At 38 still our best D-man, a warrior, he has been called a poor mans Lidstrom. High praise but he deserve it.

Mark Streit
last season - 48gp 6g 21a 27p -14
projections - 82gp 10g 35a 45p +10

Brought in to help with the break out pass, that was one area we were terrible in last year, with the departure of Matt Carle it left guys like Coburn to play out of their element. At 35 he is a bit old but only has 8 NHL season under his belt. Good at what he does.

Brayden Coburn
last season - 33gp 1g 4a 5p -10
projections - 82gp 5g 20a 25p +10

Horrific year last year, forced to play out of his element he was truly terrible, but now with Mark Streit brought in he can focuse on his own end. Look for a bounce back year.

Luke Schenn
last season - 47gp 3g 8a 11p +3
projections - 82gp 5g 15a 20p +15

Solid, great hitter and shotblocker, Best defensive D-man on the team. Tough as nails aswell and only getting better.

Erik Gustafsson
last season - 27gp 3g 5a 8p -1
projections - 82gp 5g 15a 20p +3

Great look last year and solid for sweden at the worlds, plays much like Timmo, fingers crossed.

Nick Grossmann
last season - 30gp 1g 3a 4p -1
projections - 82gp 3g 5a 8p +5

Solid Smart and good hitter, knows his game and plays it.

Goalie

Steve Mason
last season - 7gp 4w 2l 1.90ga .944sv%
projections - 50gp 30w 20l 2.24ga .919sv%

Hope he can revive his career after stuggling to regain his calder form.

Ray Emery
last season - 21gp 17w 1l 1.94ga ,922sv%
projections - 32gp 18w 14l 2.25ga .910sv%

Love the razor, great team guy, will help big time while being a steadying precence in the locker room.

There you go, feel free to let me know your thoughts and thanks for reading!

Not bad all of these guys would have to perform as best as they could imo as you are calling for 272 gf this season and in the last 5 season not including the lock out (so from 11-12,10-11,09-10,08-09,07-08) they have put up 264 gf, 259 gf, 236 gf, 264 gf and 248 gf. You could argue the team is young and a lot of guys coming into their zones now but I still think everything would have to go right for them to hit those numbers but they are crazy either like 300 gf lol

To suggest that Vinny and B Schenn are on the same point scale is a slap in the face to Vinny. Consider what Lecavalier was working with in Tampa. St Louis moved to Stamkos line. Leaving Vinny with nothing. In Philly he has something and if he cant outscore Schenn then he is worth less than zero in reality.
