First of all, I'd like to say hello to everyone reading this, my first blog post of many to come. Thank you for taking the time to read my posts!
My name is Jeff Smith, I am a 21 year old SFU student living in suburban neighbourhood of South Surrey, BC. Like most people around these parts, I have been a Vancouver Canucks fan ever since I can remember. I live and breath Canucks, and spent far to much of my free time thinking about last nights game, staring at statistics on the internet, making posts in the canucks.com forums, and watching each an every game.
I post as "MaximAfinogenov" on the Canucks.com forums, where I am a regular contributor. The reason for that moniker is my longtime and truly unexplainable fanhood for Sabres forward Maxim Afinogenov. Ever since he broke into the league, he reminded me of Pavel Bure, even when Maxim couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with his 20mph shot a few years ago. I love explosive offensive players with breakneck speed and sick stick-handling skills.
The past few weeks have been especially exciting for me as a Canucks fan, as I decided to participate in the team's "Ultimate Canucks Search" contest. I produced an animated rap video called "Trapper's Delight" for the contest, which has received a great deal of media attention and now has over 150,000 views on YouTube. The most exciting part of it all was hearing that the canucks players had watched it, and loved the video. According to Josh Plummer, Kevin Bieksa was overheard singing a few lines from the song!
My video took home "Best Music Video" honours, and as a result I was awarded with 2 tickets to Game 1 of the playoffs vs the Stars, and will be getting a team signed jersey aswell.
For those of you who have not seen my video, you can check it out here.
I also created the Rory Fitzpatrick attack ads from a few months back, which also received a great deal of media attention, including TV appearances on TSN, Sportsnet and ESPN.
