reasons for optamism

Posted 9:52 PM ET | Comments 0
Reasons for optamism these days seem low sourrounding our lowly Canucks. Everything from the Luongo trade debates, the Doan "DECISION" and ofcourse the ongoing he said/ she said battle between Mike Gillis and the Ryan Kesler Party. Amongst all these and the somewhat obvious upcoming lock out, I'll try my best to brighten up your day with a few reasons to smile regarding your Vancouver Canucks.

-Jason Garrison.

A free agent signing which will help solidify the Canucks back end. Hes a big boy with a big shot. Some may think his 16 goals were a fluke last year. I however believe it was a result of a solid team put together, with the right players alongside him. Its obvious that when you are paired up with an offensive defenceman like Brian Campbell you are going to succeed. And the Vancouver Canucks D-line has several that can easily help him flourish this year even strength and on the PP.

-Zach Kassian.

The winger who was traded for up and coming star Cody Hodgson was not exactly greeted with open arms last year. Kassian often seemed slow and unable to finish quality scoring chances. Needles to say, Many of us around Vancouver were scratching our heads wondering what exactly or GM had done. Well, its sure seems like Zach has used all the critisizm as fuel to become a better Hockey Player. So far this off-season he has been vigorously working out hitting the weights hard, Power skating and looking to improve his finish around the net. Most impressivley he has lost 20 pounds. Plenty of reasons to expect a better Zach Kassian next season.

-Zero Competition.

Our goaltending situation is solidified. Sure, Luongo is still a member of this organization. But with the Canucks signing Schneider to another contract for multiple years and millions of dollars, It's clear he is "The Guy". Luongo is on his way out of town which is good new for Cory Schneider. No longer having to answer questions revolving around his relationship with Roberto will be beneficial. All he gets to do now is relax and do his thing. Likely a monkey off his back.

-Redemption.

Hunger is a word that comes to mind with the upcoming season on its way. Vancouver seemingly couldnt do anything wrong to seasons ago. Presidents trophy, Slaying the dragon that is the Chicago black Hawks. Going deep in the playoffs only to lose in Game seven of the Stanley cup Finals.

They had and extremely short offseason going into last year which didnt allow the boys physical or mental wounds fully heal.

And then being ousted last year by the 8th seeded, Eventual champion LA Kings in the first round has likely given the boys a little more time lick their wounds and come back stronger and healthier.

You have to think after two years of incredible disappointment, Our boys will be coming out harder and hungrier than last year or perhaps even 2011. These guys know what it takes to win, and I believe they will fly out of the gates next year.

All in all the fans of our Vancouver heros should be looking forward to this upcoming season, whenever it may start. Look for this team to wants revenge on all that have done them wrong and have another fantastic year in 2013.
