Better Performance in the last five games

The Red Wings have come on strong in the last five games. They have actually played the puck possession game and dominated opponents. Their sluggish start to the season left me a little worried, but they have gelled, switched up lines to increase offense production, and played the solid defensive game that Detroit is known for. In Detroit's recent trio of games against Colorado, Dallas, and Phoenix, their performance has ranged from a step behind all the way to highly competitive. The bottom line is inconsistency. The Red Wings pulled another one out tonight, almost in spite of themselves. Taking three penalties late in the third period proved that the Wings have a decent penalty kill, but it's best not to try to give games away. A Gordie Howe Hat Trick.....Really?

The Anaheim Ducks managed to goon it up in the Red Wings home opener to the point that they goaded the four-time Lady Byng winner Pavel Datsyuk into a fighting major. Marian Hossa has received a thorough drubbing in the Canadian media for signing with the Red Wings. The criticism has been across the continent from Vancouver to Toronto, and from TSN as well.
