Are Playoffs Really Possible?

In the Western Conference this year there are no guarantees, but I am going to make some. There are only eight playoff spots for 15 teams in a RIDICULOUSLY competitive Western Conference. If the Edmonton Oilers played in the Eastern Conference I would say their chances at the playoffs are significantly better. Alas, this is not the case.

As we [b][b]crawl[/b][/b] forward inch by inch to the first game of the regular season I wonder what the writers at The Hockey News are talking about. They have begun their predictions for the season and are releasing one team per day from each conference. As we inch closer to the regular season, Oilers fans such as myself are anticipating great things. The Canada Red-White game last night was another testament to Edmonton's recent draft success. Although, Dillon Simpson is a longshot to make the team, the oilers boasted a star forward, potential number one goaltender and a potential puck moving defenceman.
