With the Leafs training camp about open soon they have 10 defensemen challenging for spots this coming fall. With Kaberle, McCabe and Kubina all being locks with their big contracts that leave’s three spots open for seven defensemen. Sundin or Wellwood?

After the 07/08 season the Maple Leafs will have 3 UFA's and 3 RFA's. Wellwood, Steen and Stajan being the RFA's and Sundin, Belak and Wozniewski being the UFA's. Mike Peca only played 35 games last season but was big part of the PK.
Peca in the Lineup [b]85%[/b] PK
Without Peca in the Lineup [b]78%[/b] PK
Thats a 7% drop in the PK when Peca isnt in the line up. He not only can kill penalties but can play against teams best centres ex. Speeza, Koivu, Savard, Crosby etc. He will also bring leadership to a team that could use some. Would Peca comeba... Read More »

If the Leafs would like to make it to the playoffs or have a good shot at it they will have to improve on the PK and overall goals against. You may think Toronto is awful 5 on 5 but thats not the case at all they were a +11 and that was good 13 overall in the NHL.
