Pieces Toronto Needs

Now some may think of this as a surprise but I personally believe a player not of Nash's caliber is what the leafs need. Don't get me wrong though, I would love to see Nash playing for the leafs. Here's what I think the leafs need.

1. A Scoring leader, preferably a veteran, and one that doesn't cost much. Think Bill Guerin, Mark Recchi, Teemu Selanne, Ryan Smyth. Now obviously none of them would be traded but the cost would be much lower for caliber like that while you still get scoring and secondly leadership. The leadership will be handy in mentoring, that way the losing streaks won't be so dramatic.
Top Players Potentially: Ryan Smyth, Tuumo Ruutu

2. Goaltender: No not Jonathan Bernier who could be a great move, but unfortunately will probably not be easily acquired. I say Steve Mason, why this is a goaltender who has the requisite skills but is obviously shaken. Thus his stock level will be lower. This makes it a low risk move because Reimer and Gustavsson would probably stay. Toronto presents pressure, a change of scenery, and a better defence overall compared to that of Columbus. This means for low risk Toronto may acquire the old Mason. If not he's easily expandable come free agency.

3. Lose Koisarek, Lombardi and potentially Franson. Now I love the move when Burke acquired Lombardi and Franson, the reason for this is fetching return. Dangling Franson or Lombardi might help them gather a much more needed piece, if not than keep them. Komisarek well an improved year but still needs to go, he is low man on the totem pole and paid too much.

SO you think that adding: Ryan Smyth and Steve Mason, while removing Franson is a good move for the future of this team?Sorry, but I think you are waaaaaayyyyy off here.

Sorry you suggestions are dumb. Your not getting any of the players you mentioned. But do agree to dump Komisarek and Lombardi. Franson stays.

I'm not even sure why anyone cares what the leafs do. They aren't making the playoffs this year anyway nor anytime soon. No goaltending, weak defense and Kessel/Lupul are overacheiving big time. that will end soon enough.

Maybe you could trade for mark recchi or bill guerin. Oh wait, Retired... :p

I'm not gonna call you an idiot. I'm not even going to criticize you. Komisarek is a useless piece to this team. Toronto needs consitent goaltending, which at some point WILL get from Reimer, and one more top 6 forward.

I've noticed a lot of Raycroft bashing, what I don't understand is that he tied the franchise record in wins but it was more the lack of consistency the Leafs have always had a problem with. We have a big top line in Colbourne coming up soon, another 2nd or 3rd line player in Kadri, and a ton of solid D. It may take another year or two but toronto is only going to improve as long as burke doesn't over pay to get a player who will only be around for the rest of the year or next

ya raycroft has continued his stellar hockey career....3.06 gaa 896 save %...not bad for a backup goalie in the nhl....oh wait thats for the texas stars in the AHL!

o ya the year he "tied" the record he played 72 games to do it had a 2.99gaa and a 8.99 save % awesome awesome goalie wish we still had him...
