I am glad that everyone is overpaying for everyone. Drury is a great leader but, I cant see paying 7 mil to a guy who has never scored 70 points in a season. Thornton, Iginla, and maybe Briere are the only deserving ones of a 7+ a year contract from a team this season. JR is playing it smart and not signing guys for 4,5,6 or even 7 years to the Canes and has no idea if they will actually fit into Lavi's system.
The Canes have plenty of guys that will be needing to be resigned after this season. Gleason, Stillman, Ladd, Larose, and Commodore will all be must signs. I am glad JR is not over extending himself and overpaying for a 3rd line center or a puck moving d-man to make these must resigns impossible.
Next year's FA pool is just as talented as this year. There will not be as many teams bidding next year for their services. Columbus, Dallas, the Islanders, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Montreal, and Washington will give the Canes the most competition next year. JM Liles will be the Canes priority free agent after this coming season.
JR may try to go out and sign an underrated defensemen that remains. My person favorite is Ossi Vaananen the former Avalanche. If not, Corvo is rumored to be available from the Senators. He would be a great pickup for a puck moving blue-liner. I am not sure that Wallin will wave his no-trade clause. Also, I dont see any other d-men being traded or having much trade value.
