The Anaheim Ducks have a new AHL affiliate, and what better way to bring buzz to the team with a good, ole fashion, publicity stunt. Well the Iowa Chops have gone above and beyond any publicity stunt seen before... It may seem like I'm going way off topic here, but hold on:

The entire sports world is hanging onto every piece of news in the Brett Favre saga. What better way for the Chops to stir up publicity then jumping on that bandwagon.

The news was broken today that the Iowa Chops will offer a contact to Future NFL Hall-of-Famer Brett Favre! Yes, you read that correct, an NFLer being offered a semi-pro hockey contract. A press release on the Chops sight, no doubt instantly stirred up interest from Iowa Sports Fans. The offer, reportedly the brain child of Chop's president Steve Nitzel, will no doubt become a talking point at the cheese factories in Wisconsin, but realistically, it is no more then a publicity stunt. President Nitzel said in the release that. "Brett is one of the greatest American athletes of the past 50 years and deserves a place to play, so we are extending an offer to him to become the newest member of the Iowa Chops Hockey team of the American Hockey League."

Although no one expect #4 to suit up in an RBK hockey helmet insted of a Riddel football helmet, it conjures up the image of Brett Favre quarterbacking the powerplay! Sorry for the bad joke, I couldn't resist.

The Chops' management must have one awesome sense of humor as earlier this week they announced their primary sponsor is the Iowa Pork Producers Association. For those of you unaware of the Chops, their logo and mascot is based on a rather angry looking swine.

Overall, hats off to the Chops' management for adding some humor to the ugly situation between the Packers and Brett Favre.

I seriously think this would be one of the greatest things to happen in sports history. You always hear about multi-sport athletes (Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, Jim Brown), but how often do you hear about a guy playing both pro football and pro hockey?I like the quarterbacking joke, BTW - so obvious, yet I never would've thought about it.
