After reading an article on Cody Hodgson from the Vancouver Province http://www.canada.com/the...98-4d09-9a0b-9dddec9fe1c0 and hearing that he has advanced to the Canucks main camp. I am starting to wonder if Cody Hodgson might have a chance of making the Canucks this season. His 5 points and a plus 5 rating in 2 games at the Oilers/Canucks/Flames rookie tournament are very impressive.

Maybe playing against other guys your age makes it easy to rack up the points but with the Canucks looking for someone besides the Sedins to score this year I am beginning to wonder if Hodgson can make an impact on the Canucks right away like Sam Gagner and Andrew Cogliano did for the Oilers last year.

I will be attending the Oilers/Canucks preseason game on September 22nd and I will definitely be watching Hodgson to see if he stands out for the Canucks.

keep him in the minors and let him develop or dominate there...then pull him up, he'll be worth the wait

I disagree with Bongo, its easy to just say to every Rookie 'Your heading back to minors, we may call you up' and hope they develop at the pace you want them to.I dont think Gillis has full intentions of doing this, and Ill tell you why.IF Hodgson is sent back down, he is not going to the Minors. He will have to go back to Juniors, in which case, the canucks cannot 'pull him up' for the whole season. If they keep him longer than 10 games, they have to keep him for the whole season. Basically if we write him off now, we need to understand its for the whole season, no calling on Hodgson when we need him.THAT should be one of the harder decisions that Gillis will need to make. Again we get 10 games with the kid...If he wants to play, and has proven he is ready to give 110%, why not give him every opportunity instead of just saying "NO, send him back down, its worth the wait". Alot of naive people keep saying that, its not that simple. We may need this kid, I watched both the rookie games and he was on a different level than every other player on the Ice, he was smart with the puck and I think he deserves every shot at making this team. Let him condition himself with us, because if he can contribute to this team, Im quite sure hed be more useful than lets say.. Pyatt. Or Cowen. ETC ETC.Give the kid a chance..THEN say he should go back down.

He can't go to the Minors. He either stays with the Canucks or goes back to Junior.

If he has a good preseason I don't see why the Canucks wouldn't keep the tryout going for more 10 games. If he has the offensive potential I keep hearing about he could really help the Canucks this year.

Thats exactly what I keep saying. If he truly is trying as hard as they say, and plays like he did in the rookie tournament, theres NO reason that he cannot contribute to this team and make it better throughout the regular season. Frankly, offensively, WE NEED IT. Who knows, whos to say he CANT contribute LARGELY, and help make the canucks a force. Gillis has intentions on winning the cup this year, not rebuilding. He said it, Luongo said it. Expect some risks taken, expect some pleasant suprises from players who need to 'stepup'Expect Raymond, Kesler to play a much larger role on this team. Expect Gillis to take changes on young talent like Hodgson. If it pays off, who knows where it can take us.
