A Night With Ted Nolan

Posted 10:24 AM ET | Comments 0
Just around this time last year I came home to find out that Ted Nolan had been relieved of his duties of head coach of the new york islanders. My initial reaction was shock, followed by a bit of anger, and then acceptance. While Nolan was a really great coach, it seemed there was a bitter struggle going on internally between him and Garth snow regarding the direction of the organization; and which vision would eventually lead to a stanley cup championship. Snow finally won that battle on July 14th of last year when the Islanders announced Ted would not be coming back for the final season in his contract.

Like with any other big Islanders news I called my two friends who are just as big as fans to talk about what happened. Both were equally dissapointed because a year ago it seemed we were finally on the right track with Neil Smith and Ted Nolan on board. Amazing what a difference a year makes huh?

Later that night after our teams roller hockey game we were all outside the rink celebrating a victory with the usual ceremonial passing of old E. Nolans firing was a big topic that night as the news was still fresh in everyones mind. Suddenly my friend got a text message and looks up with a huge grin.

"dude, Ted Nolan is at bar in wantagh" (our hometown, 10 minutes from where we were)
