Tlusty dealt for Paradis

Posted December 3, 2009
As reported by TSN, the Toronto Maple Leafs dealt winger Jiri Tlusty to the Carolina Hurricanes for prospect Philippe Paradis. Both players are former first round picks with Tlusty going 13th overall in 2006 while Paradis was Carolina's first pick (27th overall) in the 2009 Entry Draft. Tlusty's development had seemingly stalled this season and he has been passed by Victor Stalberg a... Read More »

Kessel and the Leafs

Posted September 15, 2009
With all this talk of trading a glut of high draft picks for Phil Kessel (1st round, 5th overall), discussion of 'draft pick value' seems to be the rage. I can't really beat the work Scott Cullen at TSN has done in analyzing the statistical odds a draft pick will make the 'big show' but I can throw in my two cents as to the value of draft picks to the Leafs. When people start talking about dra... Read More »

Kaberle to Vancouver??

Posted July 17, 2009
Eklund has suggested that a deal trading Kaberle to Vancouver is almost complete. I like this move for the Canucks but can only wonder: what are the Leafs actually getting out of this? Assuming that the Leafs are in the market for a young top-six forward, it confuses me when I don't actually see any such players on the Vancouver roster not named Cody Hodgson. Apologies to Mason Raymond, but h... Read More »

Leafs deadline dealings

Posted March 4, 2009
The Toronto Maple Leafs acquire a second-round draft pick and a conditional draft pick from the New York Rangers for Nik Antropov. Is that it? I will admit that I am totally disappointed by what Nik Antropov brought in trade. I will admit to being curious about what the conditional pick might entail but with the sheer volume of second round picks flying around (9 of them changed hands!),... Read More »

About Me

Favorite Teams

Toronto Maple Leafs (my absolute favourite), Ottawa Senators (believe it or not), Minnesota Wild (even when the Stars left, I knew a team belonged in Minnesota), Washington Capitals (they are fun to watch)

Most Hated Teams

Edmonton Oilers (believe it or not there are more idiots per capita in Oilers nation than Leafs nation)

Favorite Players

Mats Sundin, Joe Sakic, Doug Gilmour, Owen Nolan, Alex Ovechkin,

Most Hated Players

Steve Downie, Cam Janssen, Jesse Boulerice, Chris Pronger, Bryan Marchment, Alexei Kovalev

Best Hockey Memories

-Owen Nolan embarrassing Hasek at the All-Star game in San Jose-scoring my own hat trick (not an NHL memory, but fun nevertheless)-any time Mats Sundin puts on a real show of classiness or skill that reminds me why I love hockey

My Hockey Teams

The Extras: a university team

As a hockey player, I compare to...

I wish I had the talent to play like Mats, but realistically I drive hard to the net and corners, I play sound defensively, I win faceoffs, and I try to exhibit leadership qualities and sportsmanship. I'd say I play like a very poor man's Owen Nolan

For actually reading: Alec Brownscombe, Jesse Connolly, Ron GuilletFor laughing at: Al Cimaglia - how many dumb trades can he propose (I started laughing permanently when he suggest Khabibulan and Barker for Calder and Kopitar)For depressing and angering me: Howard Berger - is it me, or does Howard take a disparaging view no matter what the Leafs do... if they win, he says they are screwing their future, if they lose, he says they are an embarrassment... it just seems like Berger's ideal season is 82 2-1 losses
