The Anaheim Ducks have won the Stanley Cup. Not only did they win it, they won it
convincingly. Three straight seasons- maybe four (did the Detroit-Carolina series go seven games?)- the Finals were decided in seven games. This was the first truly lop-sided final I've sat down and watched since the Red Wings swept the Flyers back in '97 (now THAT was a show of force). These two teams couldn't have been more opposite of each other. The Ducks came in focused, professional, and ready to kick some Senator backside. The Senators came in and let themselves get caught flat-footed early, and the Ducks took full advantage of it. Ottawa's dominance of the Sabres never translated, and it may be the nine-day layoff that killed them in the end. I do have to eat a bit of crow for picking the Senators in five games, though.
That being said, THE EURO CURSE LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, that was overkill. But the Euro curse is one of the true sports curses. A team with a European captain has never won the Stanley Cup and, the way things are going, never will.
Mr. Bush, there are a few thousand people out west who would like to borrow your "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" banner...

So the Preds picked up Matt Ellison from the Flyers the other day. Had a decent season with an awful Phantoms team(second on the team in scoring with just 39 points). He's more of an energy player than anything else. This was a good depth pickup by Poile, and lord knows this team needs forward depth.
But there are some people who think he's actually going to be on the Nashville roster because Balsillie is trying to tank this team. Those people need to seriously calm down. This is a move to replace Pat Leahy, who probably will not be back with Milwaukee next year.
Everyone please remain calm, the sale is not final yet and Balsillie has next to no control over this team.
but alfredsson is the first euro to lead his team to the finals stepping stones for euro captains
I'd also like to point that no Lindros has ever led a team to the Stanley Cup either. The Lindros Curse lives on!
European Captains are rare, which is why here's a curse, more than anything else.
I'm not saying it'll be the Sens and Alfie (it will), but there are other great European captains on great teams. It's only a matter of time...
There is no such thing as this "curse" that your mind has created. The Babe laid a curse on Boston. my Gramma laid a curse on the milkman. No one (involved) has lain a curse on Euro captains...not even the Cherry one.
this sens team = 97 flyerswin first 3 rounds 4-1...get owned in finals by better western conference squad
here is some research on Euro Captains.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Gottselig
