I saw a Flyers blogger mention that Cory Sarich would sign in Nashville and would "replace Timonen."
Huh!?
Cory Sarich was a second round draft selection of the Buffalo Sabres in 1996. He was traded to the Lightning in 2000. From 2002-2007, he has played every single regular season game- for those who hate math, that's 328 games. I think he's also played every playoff game (that's 45). In that span, he has a total of NINE goals and 54 assists. He's a net -6 and has 301 penalty minutes.
How does this guy replace Kimmo Timonen at all? He's more like a replacement for Greg Zanon than anyone else. And, more importantly, what is with the hype he seems to be getting? I just don't understand it.
Sarich is a solid blueliner though your right he is no Timonen. He would be a good addition for Nashville if they picked him up at a reasonable price. Your right he is nothing special but he is a good value d-man who plays both ways.
That wasn't a blogger. That was a guy who wrote a My HB blog. Sarich is not a replacement for Timonen, other than taking up a roster spot.
He hasn't missed a game in five seasons? As long as he is solid back there I think a lot of teams would love that, theres definetly some value in that.
Yes, I'd like to clarify my blog. I did not mean Sarich would be replacing Timonen as far as skill level is concerned. Everyone knows that Sarich is not much more than a spare piece and Timonen is a very gifted offensive defenseman. Just that Nashville may need to sign a veteran defenseman to "replace" the loss of Timonen (if he departs via free agency).
