Roenick Isn't Wrong

Even a broken clock is right twice a day, a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut...there are a million colloquialisms that could be used to describe Jeremy Roenick's broadcast career. However in this case, I'm going with he hit the nail on the head.

Jeremy Roenick suggests that the season isn't over for Buffalo, but the tenures of Sabre stalwarts Lindy Ruff, Darcy Regier, and perhaps even Ryan Miller should be. He also points out that the Sabres aren't acting together as a team, and that is the most damning point of them all.
While I think it's debatable whether or not Buffalo's season has reached critical mass, he's dead on about the "team" aspect. Win or lose in the NHL you need your roster to have each other's backs. We went through this after the Miller/Lucic incident, and I thought that for the next dozen or so games the Sabres banded together. Even if they weren't winning, they were supporting each other on the ice.
Lately however, they appear as a team full of individual players who could care less about each other. Miller and Enroth should tap pads during that exchange no matter what. It's a bad sign that Miller doesn't acknowledge Jhonas, and an equally bad sign that Enroth doesn't show his support for an obviously frustrated Ryan Miller.
After Miller is pulled he NEVER returns to the bench. Again, I know he is frustrated, and I'm not trying to put this all on him, but it's just another example of how the men in this locker room aren't supporting each other as teammates should.
This team needs more than just a corporate team building retreat (who'd catch Roy in the trust fall?), they need a culture change. Swapping a player or two won't change the culture, Ryan Miller attested to that after last night's game, but bringing in a new coach can have that affect.
Look at the St. Louis Blues, they have had a plethora of young talent over the last few years, and every off-season you think...wow St. Louis is going to be pretty good this year and they underachieve. In comes Ken Hitchcock, who doesn't tolerate the kind of selfish behavior the Sabres are exhibiting, and St. Louis has a legitimate shot of winning the highly competitive Central Division.
Buffalo is likely to make drastic changes this off-season, but I'd like to see the hammer fall on some of the incumbents who have overstayed their welcome mid-season. The fan base is getting restless and you know things are bad for your organization when Jeremy Roenick has a better pulse on your team than the Owner/GM does.
The trade deadline is Feb. 27th, by then the Sabres will be irrelevant, they need to start making moves now. Buffalo plays 5 more on the road before returning home to face the red-hot Rangers on Feb. 1st. Here's hoping that the Sabres team that comes home to face their cross state rivals looks dramatically different than the circus show on the road right now.

I do not have access to the games right now and did not watch the Wings game, but if what you say is true about Miller and Enroth not doing the pad tap when Enroth replaced Miller, that is very rare and not a good sign. Its a little thing but those things matter.
Oh it definitely happened Gunner, watch the video I linked to...it show's them give each other the cold shoulder, Roenick can be a fool sometimes but even he can see this team is full of selfish punks.
Unfortunately at work it won't let me download the plugin to watch it but I'll definitely check it out at home. Miller is as good as gone IMO, he has mentally checked out on the franchise.
I've watched Miller/Enroth interactions as close as I can, and I don't recall ever seeing Miller really give him any good reaction, whether it's when Miller is pulled or when Enroth wins and the team comes on the ice.
Very good blog. Caller on GR pointed out this morning that he's been getting online feeds from the road teams since TWC is offline, and he said the announcers are pitying the Sabres and their fans.
I also listen to the road feed quite frequently. The road announcers seem befuddled as to why we haven't done anything drastic yet, and you're right they have been pitying the fans. They all assumed with new ownership the old excuses would go out the window as well...unfortunately it's more of the same so far.

Personally I would shop Roy and Boyes together and see what I can get. I know he's hit a wall as rookies do but put Adam back on the top line please!!!

@Mathwil3 I completely agree about Luke Adam, he needs top 6 minutes, he should either be on the top 2 lines with the Sabres or the top line on the Amerks.
