First off, sorry for the delay had some stuff come up and I'm back hopefully bi-daily
Leafs Rumors and notes:
Clarke MacArthur – Appears as though MacArthur is leaning towards signing with Florida or Dallas, it is unclear if he is getting the same love back or if there is a spot there. I’ve also heard that MacArthur doesn’t care where he ends up, but will sign for the most money possible.
Dion Phaneuf – I’ve heard that part of the dressing room are not a fan of the captain and that he’s a “douche”. I said before that I think Lupul is the real captain of the team and I would like Phaneuf to stay as a #2 or #3 defencemen, but sometimes it just doesn’t work taking a captaincy away and keeping him.
Randy Carlyle – You can’t blame a coach that got a team into the playoffs for the first time in what felt like 50 years. However, Carlyle has pushed the team and some may not like how hard he works them and is burned out. However, this is from players in the dog house and afraid to give or take a hit. I don’t see Carlyle going anywhere.
David Clarkson – Is it worth trading a 5th or 6th round pick now to get ahead and talk to Clarkson? I’m think the Leafs finally have a good UFA pick up and maybe not taking the chance of losing him. Send the Devils some compensation and get him locked up for 4-5 years.
Jake Gardiner – My favorite hockeybuzz blogger, in fact favorite blogger anywhere to read is Richard Cloutier (Edmonton), I’d give you a job with the Oilers if I could. But would he stop making comments about Gardiner + coming to the Oilers. Gardiner is not going anywhere, he is better then Justin Schultz, I watch every Leaf game and most Oilers games. Think Erik Karlsson, that is what I think Gardiner can be.
Phil Kessel – Heard an amazing interview with a Toronto Sun writer yesterday on the Team 1260 Edmonton. Kessel has shown what he is and I’d lock him up for 7 years at 7 million if they could. I’ve never thought they got blown out in that deal, but they may have won that trade.
Interesting read and I do not disagree with a good portion of it.MacArthur just is not going to be a third line guy, and easily replacable as a second line winger, especially with how he struggled to score. I could see Florida but only if its a reasonable cost. Dallas though yes could use him there but if he is expecting a winfall payday I think he will wind up floating available for quite a while.Carlyle is not going anywhere and players crying foul are likely ones that are going to be moved out. Nonis and Carlyle are going to reshape the team as best they can and anyone not fitting the overall team strategy should likely end up moved out.Clarkson absolutely agree with you. Kessel I agree re-sign him, we would have trouble replacing his offence and he seems to be developing his overall game and listening to Carlyle and staff. 7mil though I do not think he will get that money. Gardiner is a great puck mover but I do see him moving. He was not a Carlyle favorite and if we lock up Franson, who showed his worth, I have to wonder how many puck moving guys we need? I could see him traded but agree NOT going to Edmonton. If I had to hazard a guess IF he was traded, I would say Colorado who has a big need for defence and has a glut of centers. Carlyle just does not seem to like or want to use Gardiner at all and if that is the case I would say he is a big trade chip.I think there will be some surprises come up here. Between buyouts and teams getting under the cap, it is going to be a busier crazy offseason than we have seen the past while.
Phaneuf a douche? As a flames fan it reminded me of all the dirty looks he used to get from Regehr when he would have to chase down icings in Phaneufs corner while Dion lazily coasted back... not too mention some of the rumors about his time in Calgary... i think douche is just the ip of the iceberg with that egomaniac headcase
Things seem to be going Ozzy Crazy Train here now! Lecavallier, Letang, Clarkson all possible targets or at the very least intriguing chatter. Toss in guys needing qualifiers and to be signed, adding Bernier. And of course who might be traded out like Phaneuf? Going to be an interesting few days here!
