It is long past time for Mike Milbury to wear clown shoes whenever he is on NBC covering a hockey game.
Last night, the great bastion of all that is holy in hockey suggested that Ron Rolston should be fired.
Upon hearing that, I was immediately overwhelmed by a queasy feeling as I thought the world might be ending due to my being in agreement with Mike, until I heard his reasoning why, at which point I began to feel better, and the world began spinning on its axis once more.
Try and find a Sabres fan, any Sabres fan, that doesn't want Rolston fired, and if you accomplish that, you very well may have been talking to a member of his family. The total and complete absence of a plan of attack or well thought out style of play is the one and only reason all Buffalo fans want him gone. Well, that, his lack of a defined role for Grigorenko, playing Tallinder over Ristolainen, consistently putting John Scott in the lineup...ok, the list is quite long.
However, for the sanctimonious, at best, Milbury to claim Rolston should be shown the door for putting John Scott on the ice at that point of the game as if he ordered the hit on Eriksson is ridiculous, and really a new low even for a clown like him.
John Scott acted stupidly committing that blindside hit, without question, but how is that the coach's fault?
If you are confused by Milbury's logic, congratulations as you have an active, functional brain because Mike has a long history of making terribly informed comments that make as much sense as trying to fly to the moon by flapping your arms.
You can blame Rolston for a lot of things, but the hit John Scott laid out is Scott's fault and his alone, not the coach's.
You can accuse Milbury of a lot of things, but one of them is not that of being an insightful, intelligent hockey analyst, and last night was yet one more example of that.
Nice job Kong
Amen!
I do not think firing is in the cards from the league but a fine? Sure. Scott is out there for one reason, in the lineup for one reason, and this is also the second time now he has gone out, gone after a skill player with the game pretty well done and decided. Having him on the ice does fall on Rolston! That said Milbury is rather hypocritical given his whole shoe incident in his own past and his rough style as a player no less too! Lets not even go into his disaster as a GM! The fact is they give the clown airtime only because he is a clown and blurts out this garbage. Lets face it canning him and actually getting some decent analysts would actually improve their coverage but I do not think they care that much about it. They hired Milbury in the first place.
Rolston should be fired, but not for just those reasons. Our prospects are regressing in their development, he seems to think playing our top forward prospect on the 4th line with scott will help him. I hope they send Zadorov back before Rolston changes his game too.
i do not want rolston fired...as for grigorenko, he is a victim of circumstance, too good for junior, not ready for the big-time, ineligible for the ahl...plus, he has done little over the course of his short career to warrant a move from his present spot...he is lucky to be on the second pp unit
at his very worst, rolston will guide this team to a top pick in the draft...at the end of the season, when miller and vanek are gone and the sabres in the basement, pegula will clean house...
plus, i do not see any regression from the youngins...tallinder will be trade bait and what is the difference if john scott is on the ice down two goals...does anyone really believe they would score two goals in 14 minutes?...they came into the game scoring a league low 1.3 goals per game
and tell buffalofan19 to shut up already...i have nothing personal against him, but a head shot is a head shot whether it be scott, chara or edler...scott is an enforcer and his role has kept the normally intimidating bruins at bay...he shoud ask the teenagers whether they or not they want him on the team
end friggen rant
If they fine Rolston AGAIN for who he puts on the ice, why bother having coaches if the NHL will not allow the coach to put who he feels best on the ice.
How many times has scott been suspended for an illegal hit? go a head count them. yes that was a bad hit. that line was going ok that nite so the argument he shouldnt be on the ice is wrong. you all just want to beat us while we are down. Milbury is a joke. watch some of the games last year. i thought scott was making strides at being more than a goon. some like to pick on him because hes so big. no hes not gonna score a ton of goals. but he should keep some people from taking libertys on us.
/////// that was painful to read. And all John Scott is doing is taking a spot on the roster from someone who can actually contribute. Milbury might be an idiot but Scott does not belong in the NHL.
Milbury being a buffoon is an incontrovertible fact.
Painful but true. alot of the crap talk is from people that dont actually watch us but listens to the media. not saying there isnt sabre fans that watch that agree with you.but there are some that agree with me too.
Wow.
Milbury is an idiot, NBC Sports should be embarrased in the way that game was covered from pregame to postgame. Milbury should be the last person to be calling out anybody, from going into the stands and beating a guy with a shoe, to sending out a whole line of tough guys to go after Ulf Samuelson, to some of the shit he did when he was a player, heard he went after somebody at 1 of his kids hockey games, shit NBC Sports was promoting that game on Rivarly night showing Lucic wasting Miller, it was a blindside hit, hope the guy is fine, but if Scott is 6" shorter it`s a shoulder to shoulder hit, he did not raise his elbows his shoulder catches the guy in the jaw, Scott should be suspended, 5 games, he is not a dirty player, seen much worse.
