Ok, Devils and Rangers listen up. We, as northern fans, demand nothing less than a swift and orderly removal of the Lightning and Thrashers from the playoffs! Anything less is unacceptable.
Nothing against the fans in Atlanta and TB. I'm sure they are very nice people. It's just that the Cup CAN NOT spend another summer in the South East! It needs to reside in a less tropical climate this year. One more year in the extremes of the Southeastern US may cause it to melt or otherwise mar that gleaming surface.
As a true hockey fan, I volunteer my team, the Vancouver Canucks, to host it for the summer. The weather here is moderated and rarely exceeds 90F during the hottest months of the year. Furthermore, Vancouver is a destination city for tourism and we would be more than willing to share it with the world. We are a friendly, open city so the Cup, with it's multicultural heritage, would be welcomed with open arms.
We also owe it to the league to host the trophy for the summer. The past 2 Cup finals have featured Northwest division teams who took the series down to the wire. We need to prove that hockey is alive, well and viable in the Northwest - which, incidentally, isn't a well known hockey hotbed in international circles.
In summary, the onus is squarely on the New York City area to take the first step in providing extreme temperature relief to Lord Stanley's Cup. Git 'er done, boys. We're all counting on you.
Something tells me you can at least strike Atlanta from your list of concerns. Just a hunch.
Boy, you Canadians are certainly upset about the SE division winning back to back Cups. I don't blame you, though nothing made me happier than seeing the Canes whoop Edmonton last year. Oh yeah, i don't think the Lightning are going anywhere...
