I haven't had the chance to write a blog for quite sometime, due to class restrictions and working on my papers. Although I took tonight to draft my fantasy team. I had the second overall pick and just missed out on Sidney Crosby, and I decided to take Mr. Joe Thornton. Below is my team I drafted, and would like if you all would rate my team
Joe Thornton - C - San Jose Sharks
Jonathan Toews - C - Chicago Blackhawks
Patrik Elias - C - New Jersey Devils
Simon Gagne - LW - Philadelphia Flyers
Martin Erat - LW - Nashville Predators
Ladislav Nagy - LW - Los Angeles Kings
Martin Havlat - RW - Chicago Blackhawks
Michael Ryder - RW - Montreal Canadiens
Joffery Lupul - RW - Philadelphia Flyers
Nicklas Lidstrom - D - Detroit Red Wings
Matt Carle - D - San Jose Sharks
Brian Campbell - D - Buffalo Sabres
Shea Weber - D - Nashville Predators
Ray Emery - G - Ottawa Senators
Christobal Huet - G - Montreal Canadiens
Peter Forsberg - C - Unknown (I drafted Forsberg with my second last pick, right before Lupul)
Team looks ok. Defense is very good. You're goaltending may be questionable since Huet has not played a full season and may get pretty stiff competition from the other goalies. If your team stays healthy (Havlat and Elias) you should do well. Nagy needs to rebound as well. But your goaltending may drag you down look to upgrade if you can or wait to see how Huet starts off.
Defence is strong, Offence could be strong depending on a lot. Not sold on Huet
I'm not sold on my goal tending either, I just hope Emery has a huge year. I was going to take Fleury but somebody took him right before my pick. If Havlat, Elias can stay healthy and Forsberg returns for a month or two I should be solid. Gagne /Nagy should put up good production and Toews was a steal. My defense I believe is the best one in the entire pool. I've made a few trade requests for a goaltender, but somehow one guy got Kiprusoff and Brodeur.
How high did you pick Toews? I have a feeling he's going to struggle this year...
Also, I think Emery will be fine, but he did have wrist surgery and might not start the season. Still, he's got Phillips, Volchenkov, Redden, Schubert etc in front of him.
I took Toews around the 5th round, because he was rated high on the draft and I wanted to grab him early, Toews will not struggle playing with a healthy Havlat. It will give him more room to maneuver and will probably score 25 goals.
I'd take that team...defense is strong and offense is certainly capable...across the board. From the Preds prospective, I look for Erat to have a much improved year and Weber is even bigger and stronger. When Havlat is healthy he is very good and one to watch. Good luck Dags!
Joe Thornton - C - San Jose Sharks - greatJonathan Toews - C - Chicago Blackhawks - I'd drop him. Plays for Chicago and a rookie? No thanks.Patrik Elias - C - New Jersey Devils : Solid Late round pick. Simon Gagne - LW - Philadelphia Flyers ; great pickupMartin Erat - LW - Nashville Predators ; underratedLadislav Nagy - LW - Los Angeles Kings - Ugh.... no thanks/Martin Havlat - RW - Chicago Blackhawks - fantastic, incredible talent, will be hurt in 1.5 months.Michael Ryder - RW - Montreal Canadiens - -30? something like that.Joffery Lupul - RW - Philadelphia Flyers - HUGE gamble.Nicklas Lidstrom - D - Detroit Red Wings - NorrisMatt Carle - D - San Jose Sharks - Talented, dropped off huge last year.Brian Campbell - D - Buffalo Sabres - mid range d, for who he played with he surprisingly had few points.Shea Weber - D - Nashville Predators - Great talent.... fantasy wise though???Ray Emery - G - Ottawa Senators - Will put up great numbers no matter how poorly he plays due to D corps. Although he might have a bum wrist and Gerber COULD bounce back. (probably won't get a legitimate shot at being number 1 but theoretically could do it.)Christobal Huet - G - Montreal Canadiens - Good goalie, hard to trust.
You have a few solid players and a few risks, goalies and the chicago players.Do /- come into account in your pool? If yes you might be in trouble.Goaltending you have 2 decent goalies that could both lose thier jobs.
I like your D and Emery should win a lot of games for you. A bit risky making Havlat your #1 RW, he seems to get hurt and miss at least 20-30 games every year.
I know I'm gambling on Havlat, and hoping he stays healthy.
