The feeling going into the Leafs road trip in California was that the Leafs needed atleast 4 points to stay in the realistic playoff picture. The guys went out and got destroyed by the Ducks....of course the organization played the Ducks off as the Stanley Cup Champions and so in their minds the 5-0 loss was completely acceptable.
Then they went out the following night and were embarrassed by the last place team in the entire league...the Los Angeles Kings. of course now something had to be done...right?...well there was...Justin Pogge was recalled and the Leafs picked up Dominic Moore off waivers.....whoop-dee-freaking-doo.
Now the road trip had already seen injured goaltender Vesa Toskala play back-to-back games so it was inevitable that Pogge would get the start on Saturday night..WRONG! the guy didn't even dress for the game and Toskala played again.
In typical Leaf fashion, the team blew a two-goal lead in the third and managed to lose the game in regulation. So here we are almost 24 hours later...and to no one's surprise...nothing has been done.
There has been no firings, no roster moves, no statements from management, zip..nada...nothing. The team is in peril, there are issues that need to be addressed and yet it seems as if up top, no one really knows who is holding the reigns. Maybe there are just so many damn people on this so called 'board' that nobody really knows whose responsibility is to make the necessary changes.
So what now? my guess is as good as yours....and so we wait...we're used to it.........right?
C'mon, they called up Pogge and claimed Dominic Moore off waivers. Seriously, the MLSE board really does seem to be running in circles. They need to decide which path to follow in terms of a GM/coach and then back off-let whomever they decide on do his job with little or no interference.
The upper managment don't care because we are still going to the games and they are still raking in the bucks. I think change will only happen if we hurt what they love most their big pocket book. Maybe then they will get a hockey person making the hockey decisions.
