I've been looking over Eklunds rumor page and it lists the Redwings as a team that could trade for Hossa. Although, I would love to see this happen. What would it cost the wings? Atlanta would want a Player with some talent. As a big time Wingnut, I would be afraid of losing some of the young talent the Redwings have. Players like Valtteri Filppula, Juri Hudler and Nicklas Kronwall have been very good for the wings. I'm sure Atlanta would be asking for at least one of them in return, plus a pick and a prospect.
For years, Ken Holland has been trading away picks/prospects for rent-A-Players with little to show for it. Don't get me wrong, Ken Holland is a great GM. He and his scouts have found diamonds (Zetterberg/Datsyuk) with late picks. But I'm afraid that the wings rely too much on the deadline deals to win in the playoffs. Maybe this year the should pass on a deadline deal and keep this current team for the run at stanley.
Knowing most Redwing fans, they won't be happy unless the wings make a big splash at the deadline. For me, I think they should make a run with what they've got.
