After signing Rafalski, Drake & Hasek, the wings are still lacking scoring for next season. This is where Alexei Yashin could help. Although, he is a selfish player, the Redwings are very thin in the scoring department. The top line of Datsyuk, Zetterberg and Holmstrom can not continue to carry the teams scoring on their back. I think Yashin would fill in well on the second line, he has always had the pressure of being the #1 center and never quite lived up to it. Maybe second line duty would take that pressure off him. Beside that, there is something about the Redwings that brings out the best in players. Cleary and Samuellson have both turned their games around in Detroit. Who's to say it wouldn't happen for Yashin. I think the up-side to signing Yashing (to a 1 year deal) far out weighs any down side.

The Red Wings need Yashin like they need Robert Lang back. Please...

They need to see what Gregorenko can offer before pulling the trigger on Yashin.

The only thing Yashin brings to the table the we need is a right-handed shot. Aside from that, he offers nothing. This guy has underachieved everywhere he has been and is ultra-soft. I'd rather we look elsewhere for help.
