Today the Flyers made some minor moves that puzzled many. They traded recently acquired defenseman Janne Niskala to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a 6th Round Pick in 2009. I was confident Niskala would be a good #5/#6 for the Flyers as soon as next year, hopefully he does well in Tampa Bay. Basically in the end the Flyers accomplished a two things out of this: 1) Acquiring Niskala pressured Eminger and Jones to sign for cheap and 2) It moved the Flyers up from a 7th Round Pick to a 6th Round Pick for Triston Grant.
The Flyers acquired another project defenseman today in Tim Ramholt. The Flyers sent minor league forward Kyle Greentree to Calgary. Tim Ramholt was once highly touted for his strong play for the Cape Breton Eagles of the QMJHL. Seems like another depth move to help on D in the future.
The Flyers waived defenseman Denis Gauthier today attempting to save salary. Hopefully someone claims him because this guy deserves NHL time, just not here. Rumors are circulating that if he is not claimed he will be bought out which will hurt the Flyers cap for this year and next year. The hit will be roughly 700k each year.
