Canucks Analysis: O'Brien / Krajicek Trade

Tampa Bay gets:
Krajicek: A solid D-man who should develop further into a serviceable top 4 defenseman, Krajicek was a good bonus in the Luongo theivery. However he was sloppy and expendable by Vancouver. Let's face it, when it comes to moving assets, the Canucks D-corps is the way to go, but 3 of their top 6 have no trade clauses. Tampa got a guy who can log better minutes and play a more offensive brand of hockey which isn't going to develop in Vancouver any time soon.
Simek: Drafted in the 6th round by Van in 2006. Had a good 06/07 year. His last year was terrible.
Vancouver gets:
O'Brien: One of the last remaining men from before Tampa's makeover O'Brien is a bit player, about the same age as Krajicek who seems to have less skill, but more bulk. He put up more points than Krajicek but on a higher scoring team. Interestingly his +/- seems to be pretty good for Tampa, which, besides his size, was a reason I thought Vancouver picked him up.
Ouelett: I really feel this was the bigger name of the trade, as the Canucks have yet another young talented forward knocking on the door. Ouelett has put up some big numbers for his age and was the ONLY player to have a plus rating on Tampa last year.
Winner:
Tampa got the better all around defenseman in Krajicek but the Canucks walked away with a better deal by getting a good defenseman and excellent player in Ouelett.
Long Term:
The fun in Tampa continues...finally some good minor pickups by Tampa but I'm not sure why they let Ouelett walk for cheap. An Ouelett/D-man swap would have been better. Vancouver adds great scoring depth and a good d-man which is great long term for them.

"An Ouelett/D-man swap would have been better." Why would anybody trade a defenseman for Oulett when they could get him for free off waivers?
I assume the same reason why didn't the Canucks get him for free off waivers.
You do realize Oulette was waived right? If he was "the best part of the deal" then this would have to go down as the worst trade in history.
I am well aware that Ouelett was waived but if he wasn't wanted then why was he included in the trade? I'm not saying that this was highway robbery but getting him in the minors should allow the Canucks to have a top 6er to bring up should someone go down.I'm not sure why he wasn't claimed off waivers by anyone...there could be something to that. I'm also not sure if he'll have to go through re-entry waivers. But I think down the line, he'll pay of big.
I'm actually shocked that he was waived, he is a capable 3rd liner with offense. That said, he was waived for a reason: He has zero NHL value at this time.
