Luongo Injury Update

Well for what it's worth they are saying Luongo is week to week. Apparently no tear, which is huge. The fact he is comfortable walking already is a great sign, and I think they have deemed it week to week as he has never had an injury like this before and so they are not sure how long he will be out, except more than one week. In the press conference there was a question asked about whether Louie had talked to Curtis Sanford about when he had a groin tear and what the comparison was, and apparently Curtis was on crutches for a couple of weeks, so that should definitely suggest we are dealing with a minor pull and nothing major. Groins are a funny thing though, so you never know, and it could be an ongoing issue, but hopefully not.
As a bonus Sanford played an excellent game. He again gave up a weak goal. The first goal on Samuelsson was one he definitely should not be allowing, but he settled in and played well from that point forward. He had some spectacular saves, especially the one off of Willie Mitchell's skate that was fluttering to the top corner. Sanford being able to save that one definitely shows his level of concentration was high.
The Good Guys managed to defeat the Red Army in overtime. It sure didn't look good after Datysuk scored with only a few minutes remaining on a power play given for what sure did not look like something that should have been called, especially at that point in the game. I guess in the end in worked in our favour as we got the call against Franzen in overtime, which allowed the Sedins along with Demitra and Salo to move the puck as though they played for Detroit and not against them, and Salo blasts one from the faceoff circle over Osgood's shoulder. No chance for Osgood, as with where that puck was headed there was no way he was stopping the Finnish McInnis.
All in all a good game, and as I stated in my earlier blog, if the Canucks can play at least .500 hockey with Luongo out, they are going to look good when he returns, and it will not put pressure on him to try and return too early. Getting 2 points against Detroit is huge, and will just add to the wave of confidence Vancouver is riding. They are now 8-0-2 in their last 10 and I would venture to say one of the hottest, if not the hottest, team in the league right now.
Here is hoping they can continue. Next up the Flames on Thursday and then Saturday in a home and home matchup. As long as Sanford continues to play well I think he will get both starts, and we will get our first look at Schneider in Columbus on Monday, but that is just a hunch.
