Blackhawks Homecoming Talk

Posted 11:58 AM ET | Comments 1
True, the Blackhawks still have one game left, this afternoon against the Kings. Regardless of the outcome, this will have been the most successful "Circus Trip" in years. Here's your fun fact for the day: If the Hawks win this afternoon, they will have exceeded the points they picked up during the last two "Circus Trips" - combined! Here's how it's played out:

2005 - 2006 > 4 points (only 5 games, though!)
2006 - 2007 > 2 points
2007 - 2008 > 4 points

I'm not saying we should break out the Bobby Hull balloons and have a parade down Madison Street. Although I wouldn't put it out of the realm of John McDonough's possibilities. I do think the boys will be walking into quite a rousing homecoming Wednesday night, especially with it being Steve Larmer Night. (Hey John: Al Secord Night? Any time soon? Any time ever?)

By the way, if anyone else has been jonesing to get back to United Centre the past two weeks, I hope you've taken a cold hard look at the upcoming schedule. Between the 22nd of January and the 22nd of February, the Hawks have exactly ONE home game. I know everything balances out in the end, and we'll have 15 of our last 22 at home, but...ONE home game in a MONTH? I've organized a trip for the season-ticket holders in my section to go to the game in St. Louis just to take the edge off. It figures, of course, that the one home game is the night after the St. Louis trip.

At this time, I'd like to repeat my annual warning to all the new Hawk fans. First of all, I'd like to say how great it is to see so many of you at United Centre, whether you're a returning exile or new to either the team or the sport. I do need to give you some strong advice, though, take it or leave it. With all the fantastic changes Rocky has made to the Blackhawk experience, I'm really dismayed that he still allows Sundance Vacations to peddle their scam right in the middle of the concourse. Here's how it works. You sign up to win a trip to the NHL All-Star Game, Stanley Cup Finals, some grandiose prize. Once you sign that form, you've got a potential nightmare on your hands. There is neither time nor space to go into it here, but if you want more information, I strongly urge you to Google "Sundance Vacation Scams". The stories are chilling.

VERY random thoughts:

A lot of my fellow season-ticket holders are having champagne wishes and caviar dreams regarding the Winter Classic. Their tickets are on StubHub ranging anywhere from $1,500 to $5,000. Now I know it's early, and I know the holidays are coming up, but the fact is people are having trouble getting rid of their tickets for $500, let alone $5,000. You know what I think, gang? I think you really want to go to the game.

Here's to hoping this year's annual Khabibulin Injury is as successful as this year's annual Circus Trip.

This is for all the Blackhawk Ice Crew aficionados out there - it looks like our very own little Yanina is a professional football player! Unless I'm mistaken, she's a premiere member of the Chicago Bliss! I mean, I might be mistaken...but there's a Yanina on the Bliss that looks exactly like our Ice Crew Yanina, and they're both from Rosario, Venezuela. If one of you would like to check out the Bliss website and see if they agree with me, I'd appreciate it!

I'm sure guys like Secord and Dirk Graham will get their "Heritage" nights next year or the year after. This is a way for the Hawks to have a giveaway, salute their history, and let an old player get a nice hand.Plus, you don't know they players' feelings. Secord (and Graham) didn't appear at the Blackhawks Convention. Sadly, neither did Eric Nesterenko, someone I really wanted to see. But, there's time for all that, I guess.
