Bruins - Love Potion Number Nine

Despite being outshot 30 to 19, which is not usually the case - in fact it was their lowest shot total of the season - and the Boston Bruins ran away with a 4-1 victory over the Stanley Cup Champs, Detroit Red Wings. Boston, second to only the Sharks in the current standings, are now holding an 8-1-1 record in their last 10 games, but the record has only been an example of strength and persistent work ethic.
After Blake Wheeler opened the scoring for the Bs, Kessel followed it up minutes later with his 13th goal of the season, tying Zach Parise for first in the league for most goals by an American player and now only trails Jeff Carter by 3 for the goal scoring lead. Mike Ryder posted two assists for the evening and David Krejci notched 2 points for his strong effort.
Manny Fernandez was robbed of a well deserved shutout tonight as Detroit scored a powerplay goal by Jiri Hudler, intended as a pass, which deflected off Marc Savard's skate and passed the goaltender. Regardless, the fans chanted "Manny, Manny" as he prevented Detroit's game opening flurry of 8 shots and skated away with a W thanks to a strong offensive output by his teammates.
Boston looked overpowering compared to Detroit's shot bombardment as they kept most of them to the side, but Fernandez was the stand out performer Bruins fans have been waiting for as he stood tall for the full 60 minutes. "We beat anybody in this league and we can play against anybody, obviously," Chara said after the Bruins' ninth straight victory at home.
While defenseman Aaron Ward left the game with an apparent leg injury in the first period, it is unlikely he’ll miss much time but the club will have him reevaluated tomorrow to make sure, and Bergeron is still playing through an undisclosed upper body injury but it did not prevent the centerman from assisting on a goal by Kobasew in the second period.
Both clubs came off Friday night victories, but it was Boston who showed little to no fatigue in tonight's affair. Boston will now have a four day break to rest until they travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Lightning Thursday night.
