Nothing else to really say about this game, so I'll put it into classic bullet point form.
The good:
Ossi Vaananen had a very strong game tonight. Made the initial save on what turned out to be the Devils first goal. This dude just doesn't make mistakes. Reminds me of a bigger Petr Svoboda. He never gets noticed, just does his job and does it well.
Good game also from Upshall, he could be a more physical Patrick Sharp if he had better hands.
Marty Biron made some outstanding saves, particularly in the second period.
Asham fights are not always the best, but they are always entertaining.
The bad:
Flyers had trouble breaking through the Devil forecheck early. They couldn't break out of the zone, partially because the Flyers had two forwards high above the blue line and partially because the Devils do a good job clogging the middle. You need to reverse back to the weak side to generate any speed against them. The Flyers were able to adjust later in the game.
Flyers seemed to be outworked for much of this game. Not aggressive on loose pucks, not winning many board battles. Also had two forwards outside the zone on too many breakouts early. They didn't really seem to compete until the third period.
Alberts needs some fighting lessons from Asham. Or Cote.
If Josh Gratton was a better fighter, Cote would be out of a job. Grats is a much better skater and can play a regular shift, while Cote is pretty useless as a player.
If anybody has seen Scott Hartnell's brain, please return it to the Flyers. He's probably looking for it.
The Ugly:
Not gonna get into the officiating tonight. Let's just say that tonight's game was called very inconsistently. Forget consistency from game to game, I'm talking consistency from play to play. Not good.
Can we somehow tether Marty to the crossbar and not let him go more than eight feet outside the net. It NEVER is a good situation.
We saw Gagne not come back out for the 3rd, and heard the TV report that Homer was addressing the media postgame regarding the situation. We all thought he had been traded. A bit of a scare also when Kimmo went down.
The Flyers gave one away tonight. Neither team really played well enough to win. The Devils played Devils hockey, which basically is good enough for a tie any night. The Flyers power play bailed them out, and Marty blew it with a bad decision.
I really hate Patrick Elias. Like a lot.
I really hate everything associated with the New Jersey Devils, LIKE A LOT!
Ditto, man. Ditto.
I don't really hate the devils they just put me to sleep. There are teams I dislike far more.
Whoa. The devils aren't boring. They have beat the flyers on many occasions and did that in excellent fashion by overtime, nice shootout goal. and even a nice regular game goal. I admit they did put me to sleep on some occasions but not anymore. with all the new players they are a very exciting team to watch.
They still play a boring style of hockey, they just happen to have a few creative offensive players.
