5 Unanswered Goals Shutdown Juniors
Montreal. Saturday, December 27, 2008. The Shawinigan Cataractes opened their new arena, the Amphithéâtre de Shawinigan, with a 5-1 victory over the Montreal Juniors on Saturday night.
Shawinigan wasted little time recording their first goal in the new state of the art facility as Matthew Pistils notched his 25th goal of the season 54 seconds into the first period. The early goal gave the Cataractes a quick lead they would never give up and was also the first goal in the history of Shawinigan's new Amphitheatre.
Montreal allowed 5 straight goals to Shawinigan, including a pair of goals by Pierre-Alexandre Vandall, 2 assists from Charles-Olivier Roussel and a goal and an assist from Phillipe Paradis.
Shawinigan, one of the top clubs in the QMJHL, were clearly excited and prepared to open their new arena as they peppered Montreal Juniors netminder Jake Allen with 35 shots.
Montreal forward Benjamin Rubin attempted to break the shutout mid way through the 2nd period, but could not beat Gabriel Girard on a penalty shot. Juniors defenseman Vincent Bourgeois finally broke the shutout with 1 second left to play, scoring his 1st goal of the year to break Shawinigan's shutout bid.
The Juniors continue their road trip Sunday against Victoriaville.
