Voltigeurs Score 5 in Third to Down Juniors

Montreal. Tuesday, December 30, 2008. The Juniors let victory slip away Tuesday evening in Drummondville as the Voltigeurs scored 5 goals in the 3rd period to earn a 5-4 win over Montreal.

The Juniors opened the scoring in the 2nd period on Nick Layton's 16th goal of the year, but fell behind early in the 3rd and were never able to surmount the defecit set by the Voltigeurs. Drummondville scored two quick goals only 30 seconds apart early in the 3rd, Gabriel Dumont's 20th and Benoit Levesque's 8th, to spark the rally and got goals from 5 different players in the win.

Following the two quick goals, the Juniors were never able to regain the confidence and momentum they displayed in the opening two periods. Strong goaltending from Antoine Tardif for the Voltigeurs, 36 saves on 40 shots, made the difference while Jake Allen stopped 37 of 42 shots for the Juniors.

Drummondville's Yannick Riendeau enjoyed a 4 point performance(1g, 3a) and Samson Mahbod scored the game winner on the power play with only 3:47 left to play. Nick Layton and Luke Adam had 3 points each in the loss for the Juniors.

The Juniors now will now enjoy their New Years break and resume action at home on Friday, January 2nd, 2009 at 7:00pm for a rematch versus the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
