Jake Allen's 38 Saves Lead Montreal to Victory
Montreal. Friday, January 2, 2009. The Montreal Juniors opened 2009 with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Friday night. Having closed out 2008 with a loss on the road to the Voltigeurs, Montreal enjoyed some sweet revenge in front of their home fans and Jake Allen registered his 3rd shutout of the season.
Following a quiet 1st period which saw no offense whatsoever, the Juniors kicked into high gear as Pat O'Keefe and Matt Fillier would score goals 3 minutes apart late in the second. Drummondville, one of the best team's in the QMJHL this season, were relatively subdued through 2 periods of action, allowing the Juniors to take advantage of them.
The third period was a completely different story as the Voltigeurs dominated Montreal, outshooting them 19-9 in the third frame. Were it not for Jake Allen, Montreal could have easily lost a game they had controlled so well through 40 minutes. The Juniors got some insurance from Chris Thorne 4:38 into the third and Luke Adam capped off a tremendous game for the Juniors with his 17th of the season.
The Juniors are now 21-17-1 with 43 points, only 2 points behind the division leading Huskies from Rouyn-Noranda. Montreal's next opponent will be the Titans from Acadie-Bathurst on Sunday at the Verdun Auditorium at 7:00pm.
