Down on the farm - Binghamton Senators Blog

Howdy from Ottawa. Here is a quick look at what's going on in Binghamton, NY or as the locals call it 'The Parlor City'.

Currently the Binghamton Senators sit 4th in the East Division with a 22-13-3-3 record. If we were in the other divison in the Eastern Conference, the Atlantic, we'd be one point out of first place and not 12 points as we are now (Hershey is the best team in the league). All being said however 'Bingo is one of the hotter teams in the Conference at the moment.

Good to see Ryan Shannon back, healthy and contributing. His 31 pts in 30 games leads the team and I believe he could provide legit scoring with the Ottawa Senators right now.

AHL vet Dennis Hamel has finally caught fire after a slow start. He leads the team with 14 goals and also leads the team in shots. Hamel has always been a welcome addition to the big club but for now belongs with the Baby Sens.

Ilya Zubov has the clubs highest pt. per game average and is second on the club in points. Zubov however could not get it done in Ottawa and belongs in Binghamton until years end.

Zach Smith has been a force physically and a decent scoring threat. At age 20 the future is bright for this guy as the Senators could really use a power forward.

Did you know that Binghamton was ranked the 7th most likely place in America to survive a nuclear attack during the Cold War?

Also earning mention is Dutch forward Peter Regin, who is finally showing potential in North America after being selected 3rd round in '04. He has 20 pts in 29 games. His size is similar to Zach's at 6'2, 198. Not as physical however, but it's coming.

Looks like Josh Hennessy will amount to nothing more than an AHL player thrown into the Havlat-Preissing trade. He has regressed alot this season with a team worst -12 rating to go along with his 21 pts in 41 games. He is still young, so not all hope is lost but it's going to take a rash of injuries for Josh to see Ottawa for a shot again.

On defense Matt Carkner's 4 mins of NHL ice time seems to have motivated him as he is playing with alot more fire down on the farm. Mattias Karlsson (Not Erik!) is still the team's best PP QB option but his pt. production has stalled of late. Tomas Kudelka hasn't been good this season, but he is still only 21. The rest of 'Bingo's defense are mostly made up of 24+ year olds who haven't played a lick in the NHL and none are very promising.

In net's is Binghamton's newest addition Martin Gerber. In two starts he has been as average as he was in Ottawa. Not doing Bryan Murray any favours as he tries to deal him. As for Jeff Glass, he is 23 with brutal numbers. 3.63 GAA and .895 SV% to go along with his 3-7-2 record.

To conclude Jeremy Yablonski has to get some mention for his goonish ways. 109 PIM's to lead 'Bingo. Also a scoring threat once every 29 games, as he has but one assist. I laugh though at age 28 he is living damn-near close to every Canadian male's dream in playing pro hockey.
